The aim of ASOMOCO is to take confusing economic processes, and to make them understandable through both metaphor and visualization. I try to make the ‘invisible hand’ of the market visible, and to show you how the different components of a capitalist system fit together.

I don’t chase the news cycle on this site. In metaphoric terms, I’m more interested in the deeper tectonics of the economic system, rather than the shorter-term earthquakes. I want each essay and video to give you lasting insights that you can return to time and again.

I’m Brett Scott. After studying anthropology, I immersed myself into the dark side, working in high finance to experience the tribes and rituals of capitalism. Since then, I've spent over a decade exploring the architecture of global money, finance and big tech, and I'm constantly on the search for ways to rewire our economic system. In 2013 I published The Heretic’s Guide to Global Finance: Hacking the Future of Money (Pluto Press), and in 2022 I published Cloudmoney: Cash, Cards, Crypto and the War for our Wallets (Penguin, Harper Collins). I’ve written for some of the world’s biggest publications, have appeared on major channels, and have spoken at hundreds of events in dozens of countries.

People call me many things – financial activist, economic hacker – but deep down I’m also an artist, and in ASOMOCO I’ll take you on creative journey to bring our economic system to life.
